The Heritage Centre is currently closed but will be relocating its collections and Reading Room to Woolwich in 2021, date to be confirmed. The Centre is a repository containing a wealth of historical documents as well as hosting a large database containing records of over 60,000 police officers dating back to 1829. Professional archivists and a dedicated team of volunteers are there to assist you if you are looking to search for information as well as helping to ensure that all documents are gathered, filed and then made available electronically. The fascinating display of records and artefacts cover all areas of policing in London and is kept fresh by rotating some of the 15,000 items from the Metropolitan Police archive. There are uniforms, maps, police equipment and a World War II display.
There are a number of collections across the Metropolitan Police, including the historical collection, crime museum and historic fleet. The Crime Museum is not open to the public.
