Beaminster Museum

Our Crime and Punishment display is a very small part of our collection, and is mainly information rather than genuine artefacts. It’s actually predominantly about the history of the police in the Beaminster area. There are photographs of policemen, extracts from local beat books, and one or two items like old handcuffs. I’ve personally done quite a bit of research on Samuel Symes Cox, who was Lord of the Manor in Beaminster and first Chief Constable of Dorset. We also have extended information about murders at Stoke Abbott and Birdsmoorgate, both of which were minor sensations of their time.
