Chippenham Museum holds two main groups of material relating to crime and punishment:
- Wiltshire Police Loan: these are objects on loan to us and relate to the history of Wiltshire Constabulary. It mostly consists of objects such as uniforms, restraints etc, rather than documents.
- Bailiff books: The museum holds Chippenham Town Council records, dating back to the 16th century including its Bailiff records. These can be accessed at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, based in Chippenham

Historic Buildings?

The museum also manages the Yelde Hall, Chippenham’s Medieval Town Hall that still retains its original lock-up.
