There are around 250,000 objects in the collection of Aberdeenshire Council Museums, and it is growing annually with purchases, donations and bequests. The museum service was asked by HMP to take objects from Peterhead Prison when the old building was due for demolition. They also have a straitjacket, body restraints and any amount of handcuffs, plus some photographs in their image collection. As well as the prison collection they  have early police tipstaves and batons, shackles, nippers, and a collection of archival material.
