The Newbold Revel library performs the traditional college library function for course members on site, the largest number of which are Prison Officers in Entry Level Training. (POELTs). As well as this we act as the staff library for all staff working for HMPPS (Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service) other than those working in the central London HQ buildings.

The collection covers subjects such as prisons and penology, crime and criminology, psychology, mental health, management, training and general employment issues, such as equal opportunities.

The collection numbers approximately 20,000, which would include books, pamphlets, periodical issues, videos and DVDs. Of this approximately 50% relates to crime and punishment.

Although the collection is aimed at supporting HMPPS staff, both in their learning and their day to day work, it is possible make the collection available to bona fide researchers for reference use only.
